How to Find Walking Trails?

You will find that once you start to walk you will encounter others that are doing the same so word of mouth will help you to decide on some fun outings.  In addition, the internet is full of great sites to assist in finding some great trails all over the country.  Your local sporting goods store may have a bulletin board listing walking events in the area.  Schools often will send home flyers of events that will take place.  You can also check the local newspaper for events in your area.  If you are on vacation check to see if the city has a historical walking trail or a walking ghost tour.

If you are interested in  trails in a natural or even historical setting click here for the National Park Service web site. This site will allow you to search for parks in your area by selecting your state from a map of the United States.

Click here for Rails-to-Trails Conservancy,  another great source for finding detailed information on bike trails, walking trails, equestrian trails, hiking and running trails.

If you would like to link to trails by state then Slackpacker is a great site to investigate.  It gives convenient access sites containing information on hiking trail maps, photos and trip reports.

Gorp is a great site to search for hiking trails by state.  It will give you a map to select a state and then a list of trails.  By selecting at trail you will get detailed information including directions and the difficulty of the trail.

You will love the GetOutdoors website's selection criteria.  You can browse by activity, destination, attraction, terrain or state.  Under activity there is even a selection "For Kids" .
