What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a fast growing game played throughout the world. It is
basically a high-tech treasure hunt where the adventure seekers are
equipped with GPS devices. It is a great event for people of all ages. Geocaching
is a great pastime, and a wonderful family event. The game is free to
play but you will need a handheld
GPS receiver. This is
something that you can do at home, while visiting friends or family or
even on vacation.
Object Of Geocaching?
The
object of the game is to use the GPS receiver to guide you to a
destination where a hidden container, otherwise known as cache, is
stored. This container will house a logbook and some goodies. Once
found you should sign the logbook with your name, include the date, and
a description of your experience locating the cache. These geocaching
events can range from a simple, easy-to-find cache to one that requires
hiking to find it. Geocaches
are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world.
Participants will hide caches in parks, along bike trails, in dog
parks, at the beach, or in secluded wooded areas. It is a great way to
get the family out for some fresh air and exercise.
Initially, you will
find that your family enjoys searching for the geocaches but as time
progresses you will want to take it to the next level -- hiding a cache
for others to locate!
