WHAT IS
GYMNASTICS?
Gymnastics has
existed for more than 2,000 years, but its development as a competitive
sport began a little over 100 years ago. In this sport
individuals perform a sequence of acrobatic movements mostly on special apparatus in order to demonstrate
strength, flexibility, balance, and body control. Exercise
equipment such as bars, rings, mats, trampolines and vaulting horses are
used to develop agility and muscular strength.
Although gymnastics is
one of the most physically and mentally challenging it is also one
of the greatest sports available to children. It is one of the
few sports that will address all FIVE of the fitness components:
-
muscle strength
-
flexibility
-
muscle endurance
-
cardiovascular
endurance
-
body composition
HOW CAN
GYMNASTICS HELP MY CHILD?
Gymnastics
is the foundation of all other sports because it develops power,
agility, coordination, balance, speed and reaction-time in a child.
Your child will develop skills in gymnastics that will be the foundation
to help them progress in other sports.
THE DEFINITION OF
WINNING....
Every child
will develop at their own pace and the child who is ahead today may not
be tomorrow. Therefore it is important to teach your child that
everyone can win only when winning is defined as "your personal best"
rather that "being better than you opponent". With this definition
in mind your child will always be in full control of their outcome and
will always feel that they are a winner!
