Tips For Making a Goodbye Box

If a friend on family member is moving it is often a time for mixed emotions.  Each person will handle it in a different way and it is often a stressful time for everyone involved.  Here's a great way to help your kids say goodbye to a friend or family member in a personal and helpful way.

Create a goodbye box.  Start by selecting a small cardboard box and let them decorate the outside of it.  Together select items to put in the box that the family will find useful during their first days in the new home.  You can include anything in the box so be creative.  Here are some ideas that may be helpful:

  • Liquid hand soap

  • Liquid dish soap

  • Paper towels

  • Paper plates and cups

  • Sidewalk chalk

  • Address book

  • Disposable camera

  • Map of the new area

  • Writing paper and pens

  • Individually wrapped snacks

  • Drinks

  • Bottle of champagne

  • Board Game

  • Photos

Make a label and put it on the outside of  the box with instructions to open the box as soon as the family reaches their new destination.
