There is no way for us to ever repay those
who serve our country each and every day as a member of the United
States Arm Forces. However, we can do something to support their
efforts and let them know that the people back home are thinking of
them. We can promote an American Tradition by creating a
"Halloween Box" care package to send overseas.
What to send...
You can help them to
celebrate Halloween with their fellow soldiers by sending a package
filled with Halloween candy, cookies, presents and decorations .
Make sure you send enough so that the treats can be shared amongst their
friends.
It is recommended that
you send store bought items only. Treats should be unopened and in
the original package.
Place the items into Ziploc bags for additional protection. Ideas:
Large bag of assorted Halloween candy, ginger snap cookies, Halloween
Oreo cookies (orange cream), caramel apples, candy corn, Peeps
marshmallow ghosts, and Act II popcorn balls .
A Halloween themed movie, CD with scary
music or a best selling scary novel would be fun items to add to the
package.
You can also include some light weight, easy
to pack decorations. A Happy Halloween banner, streamers and/or
balloons would be a nice addition.
Wrap the package in Halloween paper and
decorate with plastic spiders or something very festive.
Lastly, create a hand written letter or
purchase a card to include with the package wishing "your" soldier(s)
Happy Halloween and offer some words of support and thanks.
It will take time for your package to get to
the military units so be sure to leave enough time for shipping.
It is best to ship it at least a month before Halloween.
You can have your children do this as a
service project and they can get their school, church, sports team,
family or friends involved.
There are many sites on the internet to
connect you with a soldier if you do not know someone personally.
