 Tips on What Food to Bring on a Family Camping Trip?

In order to have an enjoyable camping trip it is important to plan ahead.  This includes determining your menu in advance.  If you do this you will find that meal time will be an easy task and that you can get plenty of help from the kids.

 

Start by taking two coolers.  One for food and perishable items and the other to hold all drinks.  Fill your cooler with meat, fish and chicken and then defrost based on the most perishable items first.  Cook food on the grill. 

Supplement meat with salads, and veggies.  Small canned potatoes are great for grilling.  Purchase boxes of rice or noodles that just need boiling water.  Macaroni and Cheese and/or Penne in pesto sauce or marinara sauce are easy dishes to prepare  Be sure to freeze sauces and defrost as needed.

Fresh fruit, S'mores, cookies. brownies are great for dessert.

Breakfast can include cereal, instant oatmeal or cream of wheat,  fried eggs and bacon, muffins, bagels and fruit.

Sandwiches for lunch work best.  Be sure to bring some peanut butter and jelly for the kids.  Cans of tuna or chicken can be turned into a great sandwich with some mayonnaise.

Lastly, pack plenty of  healthy snacks.  Remember that active kids will produce in hungry kids.

Bring plenty of bottled water to use for both drinking and cooking.
