Make sure you practice assembling your tent, camp stove or any new equipment at home in your yard so that you will not have any problems on your trip.

Examine your tent for holes and other defects by running a sprinkler or hose on it.

Arrive at the campground during the day light.  Look for a site that is flat, smooth and on top of a hill to prevent your tent from flooding during a rainstorm.

The ideal site also offers a mix of sunshine and shade as well as some privacy.

Consider camping near the lake, river or swimming pool depending on the campground's amenities.   Make sure the bath house is in close walking distance in case you need to make a night time vistit.  It is much more convenient especially with kids.
