Does Your Babysitter Know How To Care For Your
Pets?

|
It is
important that your babysitter feels comfortable with your pets.
Often times, upon arrival, a babysitter will be nervous with the family
pet and the pet could be tense with this stranger in the house. To
help alleviate stress and problems make sure your sitter has specific
instructions on how to care for your pet.
What to tell your babysitter about your pets...
-
Be sure to let your
sitter know the animals routine (eat, sleep and outside)
-
Show where the pet food and treats are located.
-
Let them know the house rules. Is the animal allowed on
furniture?, Can they freely roam the house?, Where do they eat?
-
Can the sitter rely on the kids for help?
-
Give a list of commands to use with your pet so that they can
communicate with the animal.
-
Let the sitter know any out of the ordinary behavior. How does
the dog let you know it has to go out? Is the dog a barker or
if it barks do you need to be concerned? Does anything cause the dog
to get aggressive? Will the dog run if you open the door?
-
Does the animal ever have an accident? If so explain clean up
procedures to the sitter.
-
Is there someone who feeds the animals? Does the dog need to
be walked?
-
Always leave emergency numbers for the veterinarian and all night
animal clinics.
-
Be sure to advise your sitter on any dangers to the animal that they
should know.
If
you take the time to advise your sitter properly regarding the animal's
normal behavior, then everything should go smoothly. If it
appears to be an issue consider restricting the animal to a certain area
so that the sitter can focus on the children.
