How Much To Pay Your Sitter Babysitter And Your Pet Child Care How to Select a Child Care Center
When Is Your Teen Ready to Babysit Choosing a Nursery School Things to do with your preschooler

Entertaining a preschool child is a very easy because they are full of curiosity, they have great imaginations and they always want your undivided attention.  Exposing them to a variety of activities at a young age is very stimulating for them, so plan activities that will both entertain and educate them. Consider art, music, reading, writing, language, math, science and social studies related activities.

Imaginative Play

Dress up -- Kids love to dress up.  Have plenty of your old clothes, jewelry, hats, and handbags available. Dad's old suit and tie is great for boys.  Old Halloween costumes are also fun.  Pick a theme and then have your child go and find the clothes to wear.

Play House -- Does your child have a kitchen or a plastic food playset.  Give them instructions like it is breakfast and I am so hungry can you make me some food?  See what they come back with and question them if their selection does not seem right for the meal.  Bring out the babies and the carriage.  Decide where you are going and dress the baby accordingly.

Tea Party -- Set up the teacups -- fill with milk and have them select the food of choice to serve.  Invite their dolls, stuffed animals, siblings or friends.  Encourage social skills and etiquette.

Have an indoor picnic -- Have you child help you to make sandwiches, select drinks and a snack. Be sure to fill the wicker picnic basket. Select a spot and spread out a blanket.  Have lunch and talk about the make believe trees, grass, flowers and other things that they see.

Play School -- Take this time to teach them letters, numbers, and to write their name.

Create a Museum -- Spend a few days creating art work with them and then put it on display for when dad comes home some night.

Have a Puppet Show

Build a Tent -- Use sheets, blankets, chairs and tables to create a tent.

Keep Active

Kick the soccer ball

Play baseball

Ride a bike

Ice skate

Take walks

Play active games such as Simon Says and Duck, Duck Goose

Dance

Improve Language Skills

Read, Read, Read -- Kids love storytime.  Build this into your daily schedule.  Ask questions about the story.  Use it as a time to teach-- ABC's, numbers, colors etc...

Sing Songs -- Real songs like the Royal Duke of Earl or the Itsy Bitsy Spider. Make up songs that will teach them how to spell their name or the color of their hair and eyes.

Create a Band -- Put out pots, pans, spoons and anything else that can be used to make noise.

Have an Alphabet Hunt -- You can look for the actual letters or items that start with each letter of the alphabet by scanning your home.

Make an Alphabet Book -- Cut pictures out of magazines to represent each letter of the Alphabet. Glue to a paper and label with the letter.  When you have reached Z attached all the pages to create the book.

Science Fun

Magnets -- Give them some magnets and let them explore the house to find things that the magnet will pick up.

Put various everyday objects with different textures into boxes and have your child feel them and guess what they are.

Use blocks or legos to build houses, farms, buildings etc...
