You will find five beautiful cavern chambers containing an abundance of stalactites, stalagmites, and other crystal formations along with fluorescent minerals. In addition, you will see the fascinating Lost River, whose clear waters mysteriously originate from an unknown source, flow through the cavern, and then disappear.

Lost River Caverns  also has a fine collection of antique firearms for those who are interested in that, along with a great collection of jewelry tools and supplies.

Hours

The caverns are open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
Memorial Day through Labor Day,  hours are 9am to 6pm.

The rest of the year hours are 9am to 5pm.

Crystal Cave is located in Kutztown, PA which is in the heart of Pennsylavania Dutch Country.

The temperature is a constant 54 degrees, so a jacket is required.  Note that from the main building there is a steep climb to the cave entrance.

You will find in its five chambers, fabulous milky white stalactites, stalagmites, pillars and dropstone formations.  The cave is actually a living, growing cave. The stalactites descending from the ceiling, and the stalagmites that reach up from the ground continue to slowly grow. Crystals, which give the cave its name, actually line the walls of some of the 'rooms' in the cave.  You will find formations that resemble animals, bacon and eggs and even an upside down ice cream cone.

Kids will love Crystal Cave's sluice.  You can purchase a special bag of dirt and then work to clean and reveal an assortment of surprises.

Miniature golf is available for a nominal fee.

Hours

Crystal Cave is open everyday from March 1 to November 30. Summer hours are 9 am to 7 pm and the remainder of the year is 9am - 5 pm.

Call to check on price and confirm hours.

The average guided tour will last about 45 minutes.  The tour includes an 8 minute video presentation on cave formation.

Be sure visit the Rock & Mineral Shop and Musueum

There is free admission to this museum which opened in 1981 and features the history of the cave and the development of the region as well as other surprises.

A variety of fast foods and Dutch specialties are available at their restaurant.  If you are not real hungry you may be interested in ice cream.
