Kids love animals, especially dogs, so why not select some stories on dogs to get them to read!!  Remember it is always easier to get them to pick up a book or magazine if they enjoy the topic.

Dogs for Kids Magazine is geared toward children (ages 8 to 12) who love dogs and puppies. Each full-color issue has training tips, different breed descriptions, fun activities to do with dogs, games, puzzles and posters. At the same time kids are having fun, they learn a lot about dogs and how to care for them.

A great boy-and-his-dog-mystery where they have to figure out what all this has to do with a traveling actress, stolen diamonds, and a half-crazed cavalry sergeant.
 

The Dog Who Wouldn't Be by Farely Mowat
This book describes the entertaining story of  the author's  boyhood on the Canadian prairies.  Mutt was his dog and although his pedigree was uncertain, his madness was indisputable.  He was a marvelous dog, worthy of an unusual boy growing up in an untamed wilderness.


Sable by  Karen Hesse
This is about a  young girl named Tate Marshal who gave up all hope of ever getting a dog. because her mother is terrified of them. One day a dog showed up at her house and she named it Sable,  Tate shows how determined and resourceful she is when it comes to trying to keep Sable.


The Invisible Dog by Dick King-Smith
