World Figure Skating Museum & Hall of Fame

The World Figure Skating Museum &
Hall of Fame is a state
of the art museum
dedicated
to exploring the history of the sport
of figure skating. It
is located in Colorado Springs, CO,
75 miles south of Denver, Colorado.
It is a terrific museum to visit with
the figure skaters in your home.
Inside, the Museum presents the history of figure
skating from early to modern times. Visitors to the World Figure
Skating Museum may individually wander through the museum at their own
pace but you should allow 1 to 2 hours to visit this wonderful museum.
You will re-live historical
moments through
video clips, film collection and photographs dating back to the
1920s.
The
World Figure Skating Museum & Hall of Fame serves as a honoring spot for the greats of
the figure skating world.
Dynamic exhibits tastefully display
costumes, photos, Olympic medals, trophies, and other memorabilia.
Artwork showcases famous figure skaters and ice skating history.
To capture the ever-evolving spirit of figure skating, the exhibits are
changed frequently.
You can enjoy the Skate Gallery which
exhibits the first skates used 1200 years ago. Exhibits feature such
renowned skaters as Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton,
Michelle Kwan and Kristi Yamaguchi. You can relive Scott Hamilton's
Olympic triumph by viewing the exhibit of his gold medal and the 1984
U.S. flag he carried. Non-skating visitors can learn about
the sport by watching videos, such as one by Olympic gold medalist Scott
Hamilton (1984), in which he explains and demonstrates everything you
need to know about competition jumps. The museum’s lower level
houses thousands of mint-condition enamel pins that commemorate the
Winter Olympics, other ice skating competitions and team pins of figure
skating clubs around the world.
After you have visited the
museum, you may want to visit the World Arena Ice Hall to watch the
area’s figure skaters as they practice their spins and jumps. The
families of many promising skaters live here so that they can take
advantage of the facility. The arena has frequent free
performances, which are open to the public, featuring skaters of all
levels.
