Beautiful
beaches, warm tropical weather, and gorgeous water are what comes to
mine when we think of Barbados. There are however many other
attractions for tourists to see.
Harrison’s Cave
is the number one tourist attraction in Barbados, You will be
transported via electric trams to see bubbling streams, a forty foot
waterfall, subtly lit deep pools, stalactites overhead and stalagmites
rising form the floor. The
Wildlife Reserve is another must see attraction. You will find monkeys,
tortoises, flamingos and snakes. Most of the animals roam freely around
the reserve. Be sure to see the monkey feeding it is something that you
don't want to miss!
At the Caribbean Cigar Company in Bridgetown,
you can watch as tobacco is cut, cured and hand-rolled.
Barbados
rum is distilled locally by companies such as Malibu and Mount Gay. Both
offer factory tours and tastings. At the Mount Gay Rum Tour you can see
both old and contemporary equipment used in rum making, along with a
video about Mount Gay's history, and a crash course in rum making. The
Malibu Beach Club is known for producing a very popular island drink,
coconut rum. The center is located on a stretch of white-sand beach set
against a backdrop of sea-grape and almond trees. Also on-site is a
beachside grill where lunch and rum punches are served.
Interested in a journey to a spectacular underwater world 150 ft below
the crystal clear Caribbean Sea then consider a ride on the Atlantis
Submarine. Want to stay on land then visit Barbados Ocean Park Aquarium,
which is a unique Marine Aquarium that is set in beautiful tropical
gardens. The aquarium displays located throughout the park showcase the
colorful exotic fish and sea life found around Barbados and the
Caribbean.
Thrill seekers may prefer exploring the island by horseback, ATV,
hiking or 4x4s. You can enjoy exciting snorkel and swim adventures
with sea turtles. Scuba divers will love the underwater wonders of
Barbados. In addition, you will find fishing, surfing, kayaking,
and sailing.
Looking for some history then visit the Sunbury
Plantation House and Museum where you can tour a mid-17th-century
plantation house. Barbados
Museum traces the island’s evolution from 16th century times to the
present.
George
Washington House was the temporary residence of United States President
George Washington when he spent six weeks in Aruba with his brother
at the age of nineteen.
In
addition, you can go to the Bajan Roots & Rhythms, held at The
Plantation Theatre, which is a dinner and cabaret style stage show
designed to offer visitors a genuine representation of Barbadian culture
and its influences.
