Turks
& Caicos Islands are best known for their deserted beaches, clear
waters, outstanding diving and terrific fishing.
There are however many other
attractions for tourists to see.
Diving
enthusiasts will find the third most extensive coral reef in the world
if visiting Turks and Caicos Islands.
In addition, visitors will find snorkeling, banana boat rides,
sailing, fishing, golfing and horseback riding.
You can take a tour of the Caicos Conch Farm, the world's only conch
farm. A favorite local mascot, is JoJo the dolphin, a unique Atlantic
Bottlenose dolphin who has been living and playing in the shallow waters
of the Turks and Caicos Islands since 1980 and is one of the few dolphins around the world
who voluntarily interacts with human beings in his own natural habitat.
Helmet Diving is the ultimate underwater experience for those
8 and up. You do not have to know how to dive or even swim to walk with
your family along the ocean floor, exploring all the wonders it has to
offer.
Turks
and Caicos National Museum is the only history museum on the islands and
it will give you details of early settlements, shipwrecks and the
history of the islands.
Grand Turk
lighthouse which was built
in 1852, is a functioning
lighthouse that stands at the north end of the island.
Iguana Island is
a 116-acre island
where you can see hundreds of iguanas up close. At
Sapodilla Bay you will find rock carvings, said to be made by shipwrecked
sailors in the early 1800s.
The
Hole is a forty by eight foot deep swimming hole, naturally
formed of limestone. For the adventurous at heart, ropes hang down you
can swim in the water at the bottom.
