Looking for a weekend escape with your family?  The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort Spa and Marina is the place to visit.  This luxury resort located on the Choptank River in Maryland is sure to thrill and delight the entire family.  It is a great resort for summer as well as winter.  It has 400 rooms, restaurants, a golf course, a marina, four pools and a children’s recreation center.   We spent 4 enjoyable days at this resort during 2008 - Easter Break.    This hotel's environment is extremely relaxed and very kid friendly.  Service was good, rooms were nicely decorated and very clean.

Accommodations....

You have your choice of rooms with 2 double beds or 1 king size bed as well as a selection of suites.  The view from the hotel, overlooking the marina, pool or Choptank River,  is great so I would recommend a water view room.  We went with the water view, two double bed room and it was just perfect.  It was an oversized room with two double beds, a desk, two chairs and side tables. We had two sliding doors out to a very small balcony.  The view was wonderful!  Our friend’s room had a a pull-out sofa but in our room it looked like it was removed for some reason so we had them bring in a pull-out bed.  The room was so large the the extra bed fit with no problem at all.  These rooms are limited so make your reservation early to get one.

Amenities....

This wonderful resort has 4 swimming pools: a children’s pool, an activities pool, an infinity pool and a climate controlled winter garden pavilion pool.  You can slip down a winding waterslide, play water volleyball, swim laps, soak in the Jacuzzi, or  simply enjoy the river and marina from the deck surrounding the pools.   The indoor pool area is awesome.  Your kids will love to swim here in the winter.  Bring floats or purchase one at the hotel to make the experience even better.  Water basketball is available and is a great past time. You can try out the indoor/outdoor jacuzzi, simply swim under the wall to the outside portion.   The pavilion is all glass so on a snowy, winter day you can watch the snow as you swim.  If you are not interested in swimming you can relax on a deck chair with your favorite book or enjoy the view.

Indoor pool area

At night you will find the indoor pool area is turned into a Dive-In Movie theatre.  So the kids can swim while they watch a favorite movie.

For the athletic traveler there is tennis, beach volleyball, table tennis, golf, pool tables, miniature golf and water sports. You can rent everything from a sail boat to a kayak, paddleboat, Hobie cat or 17 foot powerboat from Blackwater Paddle and Peddle located on the far activities beach near the marina. These activities are seasonal and hours vary depending on weather conditions.  A fitness center is also available.

Satisfy your inner gourmet with a cooking class taught by  the resort chef or improve your wine I.Q. with a class from The Wine Coach.

Bring along or purchase at the hotel store the goodies to roast S’mores by the grand outdoor fireplace.  This is a great family activity that all will enjoy.

In addition, you will find an 18 Acre Wildlife Refuge on the premises of the Hyatt.  You can jog, walk trails or seek a guided tour of this lush area indigenous to animals of the Eastern Shore, such as the Great Blue Heron and American Bald Eagle.

Lastly, kids can enjoy the Captain’s Parlor game room with it’s Ping Pong, Air Hockey, and Basketball.

Kids programs..

Camp Hyatt at Pirate's Cove is available year round for children between the ages of 4-12 with 24 hour advance reservations.  Your children will enjoy scavenger hunts, miniature golf, nature hikes, and more.  Full day, half day and evening rates are available.  Late fee will be added to rate if child is picked up 15 minutes after the end of the session.

Parking....

Valet parking is available for a daily/overnight fee and complimentary self parking is available.  We opted to self-park and it worked out fine.  There is plenty of parking available on the premises.

Blue Point Provision

The Blue Point Provision Company is located at the far end of the resort in a freestanding building.   It is a short walk or there is a free van service available from the main lobby. You will enjoy the tranquil view of the marina, the nautical decor and the relaxed coastal ambience of this restaurant.  Outdoor dining is available on a seasonal basis.  Food is delicious for both the seafood lover and the non-seafood lover. Reservations are strongly recommended for dinner.  Check with the hotel for specials prior to your visit.  We saw at the hotel that they had a three course meal available for a set price, which was a great deal.  This included a soup or salad, entree and dessert; however we had to request the menu at the restaurant.  It was not readily available.

Water's Edge Grill
This family-oriented waterfront restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The Water's Edge Grill is a full-service restaurant overlooking the pool.   It offers dining, indoors, or outdoors on a screened enclosed porch.  The restaurant features an array of specialty dishes, such as steaks, poultry and game prepared with Chesapeake Bay regional flair.  Reservations are strongly recommended.

Bay Country Market
The Bay Country Market, located on the lobby level, serves fresh Starbucks gourmet coffees, cappuccinos, lattes and breakfast pastries.  In addition, you  will find snack items as well as gifts, magazines, sundry items and a variety of grocery foods.

Dock's Poolside
Poolside snack bar serving lunch, snacks,  tropical smoothies, milk shakes and cocktails.

Eagle's Nest Bar and Grille
Dine by the greens of The Golf Club at River Marsh in this bar and grille. Enjoy Grilled sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and salads.

The food at the hotel was good but expensive.  We ventured out to the surrounding areas and had dinner.  St. Michael’s is a half hour drive and a nice change of scenery.  We decided to go to the local Denny’s for breakfast, 5 minutes away, instead of eating at the hotel restaurants.
