Downhill (Alpine, Snow) Skiing A sport where you ski downhill on a mountain at a fast speed.
Cross country skiing Is where you go up and down a variety of terrains.

Skiing is a very expensive sport. You have to take into consideration in most situations you will need some or all of the following: accommodations, travel, ski lift tickets, meals and equipment.  Equipment can be either rented or purchased. A downhill skier will also need skis, boots and poles.

Renting Versus Buying Skis
Choosing the right equipment - three options: rent, lease for the season or purchase the equipment.

Ski Equipment
If you decide to purchase Ski equipment you must do your homework.  It is important that you understand what you are purchasing so do some research, ask questions and shop around.

Surfing

A bad day in the water is better than a good day at work or school!

TYPES OF SURFING

Malibu surfing is the second type, which is the typical image of surfing that you have, and it involves the surfers lying down on a fiberglass board using their arms to paddle and catch a wave. Once they catch a wave, the surfer stands on the board and rides along the wave.
Body surfing, where the surfers lie on boards made from lightweight foam about three feet in length and ride the waves.  it is very common with young children.
Kneeboarding, is where surfers ride a specialized small board on their knees, they must stay in a compact and stable position so they do not fall off.

AGE Since this sport obviously requires a lot of patience so it is important that your child be at least the age of nine or ten before beginning to surf
LESSONS Surf lessons are available in many countries through surf shops or independent companies. You can either take group lessons or private lessons.  Lessons can be one, two or three hours.  It will cost approximately $55 or $60 per hour for group lessons and $80 - $90 per hour for private lessons.
BOARD As a beginner, you need a long, thick, wide board. The objective is to get something that will easily allow you to catch waves and be stable and forgiving when you are learning to stand.  In addition to your board you're going to need some wax, A leash and something to wear.
WETSUIT In many locations a wetsuit is a required piece of equipment for surfing. A wetsuit is a snug fitting neoprene rubber suit designed to insulate you in cold waters.  Depending on the temperature and condition of the water, you may consider a hood, gloves, and/or booties.  Remember that your body cools much faster in water than it does in the air so keep your head and body warm!  There are a variety of styles of wetsuits to choose from and it really depends on when and where you will use it as to what you should buy.
LEASHES Leashes keep your board attached to you. The rule of thumb is that you leash should be at least the length of your board or slightly bigger.  Leash will cost approximately $20 - $25.
