Tips For Selecting Children's Books

Tips for children selecting their own books....

  • Read the summary of the book on the inside flap or back cover.  Is it something that you would like to read?

  • Look at the cover of the book.  Does the jacket catch your eye?  Does it seem like an interesting book?

  • Look at the illustrations. Does it catch your attention.

  • Ask the librarian, to suggest something for you.  They know hundreds of books and can help you to make a selection.

  • Ask your friends for recommendations.  What is their favorite book.

  • Reread a favorite book.  Maybe something that your teacher or  school librarian shared with you.

  • Who is your favorite author?  Check for other books this author has written.

  • Read about hobbies, sports or activities that you enjoy.

  • Browse through the non-fiction section of the library and see if something looks interesting.

  • Look for book reviews in newspapers, magazines, or on the Internet?
