AGE REQUIREMENTS

AGE GROUP BOYS  14 - 16

Baseball is based on skill level and ability rather than just age.  The Senior league is for children, ages 14-16, who have a solid understanding of the sport and who have a very high skill level.  It is an extension of the local Little League to accommodate children in this age group.   This division provides a full range of tournaments including the World Series tournament.  Teams are created after player evaluation.  To play on a Senior league team the player must attend the previous year's evaluations. Evaluations are done in the Fall.

 All Star Team:

Local leagues have the option to select an "All Star" team from their Division to enter into State and International Tournaments.  This team is established to give the kids in 14 - 16 age group the opportunity to experience competition..  Players can be chosen from the Senior or Big Division teams to be included in this competitive group. The culmination of the International tournament is the Little League World Series featuring teams from around the world.

Eligibility:

These teams are selected either by tryouts or the recommendation of the coach.  Tournament level play begins following the spring season and will last through summer.

Any candidate with the proper skills, who will be 14 years old before April 30 and who will not be 17 years old before May 1 of the current year, is eligible for the Senior League.

COMMITMENT

 

The season begins in April and will end in June.  Games last between 2  - 2 1/2 hours and are played during the week or on weekends.  Normally you will have 3 games a week.  In addition you will have practice one time per week. Your child's play will be extended through summer if they are selected to participate in the all star division. These programs are normally 10 weeks long.

Fall ball programs will start in early September and last through October.  These programs help with skill improvement and allow the child to become familiar with the next level of play.  The games are on the weekend and practice will be during the week.

Winter ball is an opportunity to improve skills and have the child try a different position.  It is normally group instruction where they use drills to improve the players skills.  These programs will start in January and continue until the middle of March.

COST

 

The registration fee is normally between 65.00 and 140.00 dollars.  Many organizations will give a discount for a family with multiple children enrolled in the program.

EQUIPMENT
 

You must provide your child with a glove.  You should check with your coach or local sporting goods store to determine the size and style that your child needs.   Baseball cleats are required.  A water bottle is needed.  Baseball cap should be used for practices. A batting glove is not normally required but may be preferred. An athletic cup is necessary.  These items can be purchased at any sporting goods store, Wal-Mart, Kmart or Target.  A uniform, normally consisting of a shirt, pants, socks and hat will be provided by the league. 

Glove	Leather glove used by players in the field.  Allows the fielder to catch the ball easier.
Catcher's Mitt	Leather mitt worn by catchers.  It is better padded and much wider than a fielders glove
Batting Glove	Glove worn on one or both hands by the batter. They offer additional grip when batting.
Helmet	Helmet worn by batter.
Baseball cap	Designed to shade the eyes from the sun
Catcher's Helmet	Helmet used by the catcher to protect the head and face.
Cleats	Baseball shoes that increase traction on dirt or grass.
Uniform	Shirt and pants worn by players.

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

The head coach and the assistant coach positions are filled by parent volunteers.  They play on a 90 foot diamond and the pitching distance is 60 feet 6 inches. The acceptable roster is between 12-15 players.
