BOY'S LACROSSE
PLAYER POSITIONS |
|
Attackmen |
The
responsibility of this position is to score goals. The
attackman is usually restricted to the offensive end of the
field. The person in this position has excellent sticks
skills with both hands and is extremely agile. Each team
will have three attackmen on the field.

Midfielders |
The midfielder
will play both offense and defense. They are responsible
for covering the entire field and are instrumental in clearing
the ball from defense to offense. The person in this
position must have speed and stamina. Each team should
have three midfielders on the field during play.

|
Defensemen |
The job of the defenseman is
to defend the goal. The defenseman is usually restricted
to the defensive end of the field. Agility and aggressiveness is
imperative for this position but great stick skills are not
necessary to be effective. Each team will have three
defensemen on the field during a game.

Goalie |
The goalie is
responsible for stopping the opponent from scoring on his goal
and directing his defenseman when necessary. A good goalie
must have excellent coordination and should be quick and agile.

PLAYER POSITIONS

Attack
First Home |
The
responsibility of this position is to score goals. This
player is located in front of the goal and must continually move
toward the goal to score or move away to make an opening for
another player to score. This player must have excellent
stick work and should be a thinker.

Attack
Second Home |
The second home
is considered the playmaker and and a leader to initiate and
create scoring opportunities. To play this position you must be
quick, have a great shot and good footwork.

Attack
Third Home |
Instrumental in clearing the
ball from defense to attack and should be able transition the
ball to other players. Must be able to fill the wing position
when necessary.

Attack
Two Attack Wings |
Wings are
responsible for receiving a ball from defense and then must have
the ability to run or passing the ball. This position
requires speed and endurance .
|

Attack
Center |
This position
plays both offense and defense. She is also responsible to
control the draw. To play this position you should have
energy, endurance, excellent stickwork, peripheral vision and
the ability to communicate wit offense and defense.

Defense
Point |
The point is
responsible to guard first home. She should be able to
stick check, body check and intercept passes. To play this
position you must be steady, cool, unflappable and a bit
stubborn.

Coverpoint |
This player
should be agile, fast, must be able to receive clears and have
good footwork.
She will be responsible to mark second home. To play this
position you must be able to anticipate offense, be decisive and
know when to mark and when to help.

Defense
Third Man |
This player
will guard third home. She must be able to intercept
passes, have good footwork, move quickly and clear the ball.
To play this position you should have speed and quickness, good
recovery power and be ready to attack and willing to gamble.

Two Defense Wings |
The wings are
responsible for bringing the ball into the attack area. This
position requires both speed and endurance. They are
responsible for marking the attack wings. To play this position
you should have speed, endurance, positioning, anticipation and
the ability to read the offense. |

Defense
Goalie |
The goalie is responsible for
stopping the opponent from scoring on his goal. A good goalie
must have excellent coordination, positive thinking and should
be quick and agile. In addition, they encourage
teamwork and movement.
