Travel Lacrosse

AGE REQUIREMENTS

AGE GROUP BOYS AND GIRLS  AGE 10 - 15

Travel Lacrosse teams are broken into two or three levels with the first team being the best.  Usually, teams are distinguished by A, B and sometimes C level travel teams.

Age/Divisions for Travel Lacrosse

All divisions are based on Birth Date and your child must meet the restrictions to play the division.  Divisions usually run as Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 with a SPECIFIC cut off date. For example, for the Under 15 Division your child must be under age 15 or born in 1991 or 1992 to play in that division.

REGISTRATION

Tryouts and registration for travel lacrosse will be in late February or early March.  Forms for registration can be obtained on the organization's web site or at your local sporting good store.  Many organizations give you the option to register on line.  Registration fees are between 60.00 and 175.00 dollars.

Requirements....

A birth certificate is required at this time to prove the age of your child.    In addition, all participants must have a current U.S. lacrosse membership that is valid for the entire season.  Membership cost approximately $20.00 and will include liability and accident insurance.  Some leagues will require additional insurance for boys lacrosse.

COMMITMENT

When are Pre-Season Clinics for Lacrosse?

Many leagues will participate in a pre-season clinic to sharpen the skills of their players before practices begin.  This will normally occur in the middle of February,

Practices will be held two nights each week for approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours and will begin in March.  Your coach will normally talk to everyone on the team and determine a night that is convenient for everyone.

Games will begin in early April and the play consist of approximately twelve regular season games, once or twice per week.  Games can be on a weeknight or on the weekend depending on the league.

Tournament Requirements...

In addition, your team will normally participate in 2-4 tournaments each season.  The season ends with playoffs in early June.

COST

Travel lacrosse is much more expensive than instructional lacrosse.   In addition to your registration fee you will also have tournament fees.  Most teams will have at least one local tournament where you will only have to pay for the tournament registration fee.  For long distance tournaments you will need to add hotel and meals to the cost.   Remember you will pay for these fees throughout the year not all at once.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Did you Know...

Girl's Lacrosse is a non-contact game therefore they wear little protective gear.  As a result, contact-type defensive moves that boys use are restricted from girl's lacrosse. Once girls have mastered the basic fundamentals coaches will introduce stick checking but not until at least 7th or 8th grade.

Normally a boys team will consist of 10 players  and a girls team is played with 12 players.  Games will normally run for 40 - 50 minutes depending on the age division.
