How to Buy a Volleyball

Volleyball Court/Player Positions Volleyball Official Signals/terms Volleyball Equipment

Volleyball is a sport that you can get into without spending a great deal of money on equipment.  You will need volleyball shoes, kneepads and ankle supports, a volleyball and a water bottle.

Volleyballs

A high-quality volleyball should be the first piece of volleyball equipment you purchase.  Click here for more details on types of volleyballs: VOLLEYBALLS

Kneepads

Kneepads are to prevent severe knee impact on hard wood surfaces. When purchasing kneepads it depends on your preference and what's the most comfortable for you. You will find that styles vary slightly by type and thickness of padding, the sleeve length, and how much the volleyball kneepad wraps around the knee.

Ankle Supports

Ankle supports prevent your child from “rolling” their ankle.

Volleyball Shoes

Volleyball shoes are specifically made and built for the sport of volleyball and are made with materials to provide non-slip traction.  The sole of a volleyball shoe have gum rubber soles which is the best material for indoor court surfaces because it provides the best tractions.  Since volleyball requires a lot of starting, stopping and quick turns it is necessary to have this type of sole.

The other important feature of volleyball shoes is that they are lightweight.  Most volleyball shoes today are a combination of synthetic leather and mesh uppers. This provides for lighter weight, more breathing, and faster drying.  Other athletic shoes, such as running shoes, do not have this type of rubber sole and a heavier in weight.  In addition, volleyball shoes have mid sole and ankle support as well as extra toe/bone room for landing.  You need to read the description of each volleyball shoe and compare the different features to find the one that works for you.

The price of volleyball shoes is similar to other athletic shoes. You will find that the more expensive shoes are offer fancier features and will be lighter weight and offer better traction, support and cushion. However, this does not necessarily make it better for you.  It is really all about how the shoe fits your foot and how comfortable it feels. A more reasonably priced shoe may be the one for you.  It is very important to purchase the proper shoes for your athlete because the best running shoes will not prevent injuries on the volleyball court.

Volleyball Bag

In addition,  serious players will  need a bag for carrying all it the volleyball gear.

Water Bottle

As with any other sport it is necessary to keep hydrated.  A water bottle is an essential piece of equipment that a player must have with them all times.
